This protoype of Australia’s Digital Identity Framework comes from the Digital Transformation Agency’s DigitalIdentity site.
The design is still in a state of development. i.e. It describes both an “Identity exchange” as well as “Attribute service providers”, and then links them together, which really makes the process confusing.
In effect, the Identity Exchange really works like this Identity matching service. It matches, and exchanges, Attributes. As it says, it’s a switchboard, an Attribute Exchange. That’s what everyone else around the world calls it.
It also talks, below the diagram, of a “participant” in the system called a Credential Provider, that takes care of credentials such as passwords, but doesn’t appear in the diagram. Regardless, It’s a good first attempt at designing a National Identity System.
